DESCRIPTION:Presented as part of the Midcoast Senior College Winter Wisdom 2025 Series.  \nMarine Mammals of Maine is a non–profit dedicated to supporting a thriving marine mammal population in the Gulf of Maine and beyond through response\, triage\, research\, and community education. This illustrated presentation dives deeper into its work\, the species they respond to\, and marine mammal health. Lynda Doughty is the Founding Executive Director of MMOME. In her career she has provided care for thousands of animals\, opened Maine’s first seal triage/rehab center\, and participated in marine rescue and environmental improvement efforts.  \nFree and open to the public. This event will take place at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick.

SUMMARY:2023 Ocean Commotion 5K
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 9th Annual Ocean Commotion 5K Race! This scenic 5K benefits Marine Mammals of Maine and its work educating about and providing response\, assistance\, and care to stranded marine mammals and sea turtles in southern and midcoast Maine. \nThe Ocean Commotion course is appropriate for participants of all fitness levels and takes runners\, joggers\, walkers\, and their canine companions along trails by the ocean\, offering stunning coastal scenery and freedom from traffic noise. The timed heats are professionally chip-timed\, and prizes will be awarded to the top three male\, female\, and canine finishers. \nYou can further support MMoME’s work by purchasing official tech gear to commemorate the event\, purchasing raffle tickets\, making a donation\, or starting a fundraiser to recruit your friends’ and family’s support of marine mammal and sea turtle conservation efforts. \nOther Race Day Activities \n\nA kids 1-mile fun run with prizes for every participant (no registration or registration fee required!)\nYouth and family activities to engage children in marine conservation:  Simulation of the process of rescue and rehab process of a stranded seal\, ocean-themed coloring books\, whale bone puzzles\, and more\nRace-day raffle before\, during\, and just after the race benefitting marine mammal and sea turtle response\, rehab\, and outreach—including jewelry\, artwork\, gift certificates\, etc.\nInfo booths about Marine Mammals of Maine\, the work we do\, some of our favorite responses and rescues\, and ways to get involved\n\nRace Day Schedule \nRegistration: 8:15 am – 9:15 am\n5K Walkers Start: 9:00 am sharp\n5K Runners Start: 9:20 am sharp\nKids 1-Mile Fun Run Start: 9:30 am\nRaffle Tickets Available: 8:15 am – 10:30 am\n5K and Raffle Prizes Announced: 10:30 am\nYouth Activities: 8:15 am – end of event (~11:00 am)\nMMoME Informational Booth: 8:15 am – end of event (~11:00 am) \nAdditional information and registration
