SUMMARY:Release of Two "Cape Elizabeth Seals"
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited! On Thursday\, March 16 Marine Mammals of Maine (MMoME) will release two seals that stranded in Cape Elizabeth\, Maine earlier this year to the wild.  \nYou might remember our Friday Night Video about one of these seals who was infamously found wandering in the road by a plow truck driver during a January storm. The other had stranded in a similar neighborhood earlier that same month. Both entered MMoME’s rehabilitation facility in Brunswick underweight and required around the clock care including multiple treatments and feedings a day. After learning to eat fish\, they graduated to a larger enclosure\, which they have shared for the past several weeks\, and are now healthy enough to return to the wild. \nYou’re invited to attend the release\, which will take place beginning at 11 a.m. sharp at Head Beach in Phippsburg\, Maine. Head Beach is being opened to the public by the Wyman family for this event and MMoME requests that attendees be respectful of this private property by staying on designated paths\, carrying in/carrying out and observing the no pets rule.

DESCRIPTION:Marine Mammals of Maine Presents:\n3rd Annual Ocean Commotion 5K Run/Walk!\nThe scenic 5K route takes runners past beaches where Marine Mammals of Maine (MMoME) responds to stranded seals every year\, overlooks the ocean\, and far from vehicle traffic; a truly unique experience for all fitness levels! \nNow in its third year\, Ocean Commotion 5K is Marine Mammals of Maine’s largest fundraiser of the year\, and supports marine mammal and sea turtle response\, rescue\, care\, education and research in Maine. \nLast year\, the Ocean Commotion 5K event turned out to be a huge success again\, and raised just over $13\,000.00! 100% of the funds raised went directly to the nearly 300 seals\, whales\, dolphins\, porpoises and sea turtles MMoME responded to in 2016. Thank you to the nearly 200 runners who came out to make the event so successful! \nThe Race:\nFrom families\, seasoned and competitive runners\, walkers\, to those looking to support Maine’s marine wildlife\, all are invited to participate. Leashed\, friendly dogs are also welcome to participate and take part in the day’s events! \nThe unique 5K course is set far from vehicle traffic and takes runners\, joggers\, walkers\, and their canine companions along trails by the ocean\, offering stunning coastal scenery (check out photos of last year’s course below). \nDesigned for participants of all fitness levels\, the 5K will be professionally chip timed and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers\, as well as the top 3 dogs to cross the finish line! \n**NOTE: all runners will be chip-timed\, walkers can decide during the online registration process if they would like to be timed or not! \nDuring the registration process\, you can opt to purchase a popular official tech t-shirt to commemorate the event. Other children and family activities include marine-themed coloring books\, large whale bone puzzles and much more! \nWant to do more to support MMoME and marine mammals?\nYou can start your own fundraising page after registering online as a 5k participant! All money you raise on behalf of MMoME will help keep the stranding hotline ringing\, the stranding truck fueled\, and the stranding team prepared for response. A prize will be awarded to the individual who raises the most for marine mammals.
