Marine Mammals of Maine Presents:

3rd Annual Ocean Commotion 5K Run/Walk!

The scenic 5K route takes runners past beaches where Marine Mammals of Maine (MMoME) responds to stranded seals every year, overlooks the ocean, and far from vehicle traffic; a truly unique experience for all fitness levels!

Now in its third year, Ocean Commotion 5K is Marine Mammals of Maine’s largest fundraiser of the year, and supports marine mammal and sea turtle response, rescue, care, education and research in Maine.

Last year, the Ocean Commotion 5K event turned out to be a huge success again, and raised just over $13,000.00! 100% of the funds raised went directly to the nearly 300 seals, whales, dolphins, porpoises and sea turtles MMoME responded to in 2016. Thank you to the nearly 200 runners who came out to make the event so successful!

The Race:

From families, seasoned and competitive runners, walkers, to those looking to support Maine’s marine wildlife, all are invited to participate. Leashed, friendly dogs are also welcome to participate and take part in the day’s events!

The unique 5K course is set far from vehicle traffic and takes runners, joggers, walkers, and their canine companions along trails by the ocean, offering stunning coastal scenery (check out photos of last year’s course below).

Designed for participants of all fitness levels, the 5K will be professionally chip timed and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers, as well as the top 3 dogs to cross the finish line! 
**NOTE: all runners will be chip-timed, walkers can decide during the online registration process if they would like to be timed or not!

During the registration process, you can opt to purchase a popular official tech t-shirt to commemorate the event. You can also chose to make an additional donation, and 100% of  those funds will go directly towards MMoME’s work and the animals we help.

5K Runners Start: 8:45 am sharp
Raffle Tickets Available: 7:30 am-10:00 am
Youth Activities: begin at 7:30 am until end of event
MMoME Informational Booth: 7:30 am until end of event
5K and Raffle Prizes Announced: 10:00 am

Other Race Day Activities for the Whole Family!

Whether you’re a runner or walker participating in the 5K, or just looking for some fun activities for you and the family, all are welcome to join in on the other activities at this event!

Exciting raffle items (including white water rafting trips, snow mobile rentals, restaurant gift certificates, nautical themed decor and jewelry, pet accessories, and much more!) will be available throughout race-day morning, as well as a booth with information about MMoME’s work, mission, and a few of our favorite rescue stories.

There will also be a kid’s area with seal, dolphin and sea turtle stranding related activities to engage children about the world of marine mammals and rescue. Other children and family activities include marine-themed coloring books, large whale bone puzzles and much more!

Want to do more to support MMoME and marine mammals?

You can start your own fundraising page after registering online as a 5k participant! All money you raise on behalf of MMoME will help keep the stranding hotline ringing, the stranding truck fueled, and the stranding team prepared for response. A prize will be awarded to the individual who raises the most for marine mammals.
